Here at Robin Ford, we take our avian friends seriously, so how can we express our delight when Ford posted a distracted driving PSA centering on a bird? The animated short begins at the 4-minute mark of this video, an interview with the cartoonist who dreamed it up.
That cartoonist is none other than the 95-year-old Al Jaffee, who earned his place in comedy history as the Mad Magazine illustrator who invented the Mad Fold-in. He's been doing the iconic fold-in page for 55 years, and is still contributing to the magazine!
In all of his time drawing comic strips, he had never worked on an animated project until Ford approached him.
The project Ford had in mind was to take the concept of distracted driving, and get creative. Everyone has been told a thousand times, "don't text and drive," after all. What about "don't open a bird cage in the car?"
